I would also tell a recruit that ODU consistently has a lot of roster turnover under this current coaching staff. I would find it very easy to recruit against our current coaching staff, if I was a coach for a rival that is in the same circles as ODU. You always say this even though you have been proven wrong numerous times.

bench jockey 1st String Posts: 1,219 | Post: #1048 Ask RR and the SID: Why is access to the team/players so limited? Why do you pick the players who can be interviewed and not allow the press (written) to choose who they want to speak to? What is accomplished by this strategy, other than curtail engagement with media and by extension, the fans? How is it that there have been stories in the VP on NSU, HU, Wm, VT, UVA, FSU, GaT in the last week but not a word on ODU ('cept for Henderson's latest nomination)?

What is accomplished by this strategy, other than curtail engagement with media and by extension, the fans? They ask us who we want to talk to at media day so they can make sure that player talks to us. There is a lot going on and a ton of players available to talk. If they didn't have any direction on who wants to talk to who, it would be a mess. And it doesn't stop us from talking to other athletes if we have the time to talk to them. Last year we interviewed 3 other players we didn't plan on because we had the time. As for access to the players, they give access to different players each media session. Whether the media talks to them or not is up to the media. I would assume a lot of those interviews never get past the cutting room floor because the answers are so basic and kind of boring. How is it that there have been stories in the VP on NSU, HU, Wm, VT, UVA, FSU, GaT in the last week but not a word on ODU ('cept for Henderson's latest nomination)? If accurate, this is a point of concern. ODU honestly used to have some of the best coverage of any team in the G5. That was in large part due to the Virginian Pilot. It has been very quiet this offseason for sure. I wonder if a strained relationship (to go along with slashed staff and budgets) are part of it. I would think ODU could just send Harry's articles (which have also been infrequent) off to the VP, DP, RTD etc for them to pick up for free like the AP. Maybe that's frowned upon since Harry is a paid employee for the school and that would go against journalistic integrity? Just a guess. But anything we can do to gin up publicity across the state is imperative.

What is accomplished by this strategy, other than curtail engagement with media and by extension, the fans? You missed the point. Media Day is a completely different animal. I'm talking week to week during the season when they trot out someone the press may or may not have asked for. I'm told many requests for players are denied. In your capacity as unofficial athletic mouthpiece (which I've said before you are very good at), you have a different standard for what you want than traditional media (VP./DP).

What is accomplished by this strategy, other than curtail engagement with media and by extension, the fans? I know that. But is there something stopping ODU from allowing its content to be reprinted in newspapers? Im sure they want it to drive traffic to the ODU site, but thats not going to build new awareness. I would hope ODU would allow newspapers to pick up their content and build the brand beyond the base. I think the bigger question is whether a newspaper would do so, even if the content were free, due to journalistic standards (meaning the content isn't "objective, true journalism". Harry is a great writer, I loved his stuff at the VP and certainly continue to enjoy his writing at ODU as well.

ODone Bench Warmer Posts: 125 | Post: #1055 Placing Harry’s stuff in the Pilot would amount to advertising - and ODU would have to pay for that (and have it labeled as such) - just like they pay for the coach’s shows and guaranteed segments on radio and TV.

monarx Hall of Famer Posts: 14,981 | Post: #1056 According to WTKR, RR has stated Wilson will be the starter at QB. Not a surprise, but with rumors of Morehead looking good it’s still interesting. Especially with a week to go and RR usually being so tight lipped.
